Vocabulary quiz
1. _____________ Someone who wants to do away with slavery
2. _____________ Scam artists; dishonest people
3. _____________ Moderation; self-control, especially self-control concerning alcohol
4. _____________ Divine guidance; God
5. _____________ To start
1. Abolitionists
2. Rapscallions
3. Temperance
4. Providence
5. Commence
Reading day. Read your novel. Some of you will need to spend some extra time out of class reading your books in order to finish in time to do your book report, which is due November 5.
If you are reading a longer novel, you may stop at page 150 since other students are reading shorter books, and I want this to be fair. Of course I don't want you to stop in the middle of a great book, but by the same token it doesn't seem fair to require you to read more than other students simply because you chose a long book.
Note: if the book you are reading is shorter than 150 pages (full pages), you will need to read some short stories to make up the difference to keep things fair.
